The church is the second Catholic temple built in the city. The well-known documentation indicates that its construction occurred between 1713 and 1714. Its construction, carried out by slaves, was directed to serve the disadvantaged social segments of society. Listed in 1988 by the State Government, when it underwent a restoration that returned its original features. It is currently celebrated Mass according to the extraordinary form of the Roman Catholic rite.
